"Deer and Feathers - Communication"
A mixed media 36x56” acrylic painting over watercolor collage on heavy industrial cardboard, unframed*. Created over a collage of watercolor drawings cut up and arranged over a white background, background composed over that collage. Imagery in this came from a rumination on personal protective symbols, the deer skeleton parts are from a female deer found in it’s entirety next to a haunted pond on family land. The arrangement is suggestive of containment of power, while also having an open stance. I want the viewer to receive a feeling of boundaries, of fortification in their own, and an understanding of protective guardianship from the world around them. more images of the series here on my website as well as my instagram @laurenjwhitleyart
